Samuel Eto’o has hinted at a potential return to the Serie A after meeting with Lazio representatives in Rome. According to Corriere dello Sport, the 37-year-old had a four-hour meeting with club director Igli Tare, following the departure of Luis Nani.
Eto’o left Antalyaspor for Konyaspor in January where he scored six goals in 12 league appearances this season. Lazio agonisingly missed out on qualification for the Champions League on the final day of the season and are now set to lose many of their best stars this summer. However, their directors are famed for sealing incredible deals in the transfer market with former Liverpool pair Lucas Leiva and especially Luis Alberto proving sensational purchases this term.
Should he sign for the Biancocelesti, it would be his third stint in Serie A, following spells with Inter Milan — where he won the Treble — and later at Sampdoria. Lazio played some of the most impressive, attacking football in Europe last season and were the leading goal scorers in Italy’s top flight, despite finishing fifth. They reached the Europa League quarter-finals and Coppa Italia semi-finals in what was a season of near-misses. They now look for a brighter future with the experience of Samuel Eto’o to their advantage.
